What is material consumption tracking?

Material consumption tracking means recording every issue from the store against the department, machine or cost centre that used it, then comparing usage over time to spot wastage or equipment problems early.

Where does the material go?

Most owners know what they bought last month. Few can say where it was used. Material leaves on a slip or a verbal request, and the link between issue and output is lost.

That gap is where wastage sits: a misaligned machine eating bearings, or one section using twice the consumables of another doing the same work.

Why consumption goes unchecked

Issues are not recorded. Paper slips get lost; verbal requests leave no trace.

No cost centre on the issue. The quantity is written down, but not where it went.

No time to compare. Without a report against normal usage, a spike looks like any other month.

Scrap is not tracked. Scrap from repairs goes unrecorded, so its value is lost.

How IndustryPrime tracks consumption

Every issue booked to a cost centre

The store issues material in IndustryPrime with the quantity and the cost centre. Each issue carries the item's cost, so consumption has a rupee value. It replaces the paper material issue slip.

Reports by area

See consumption by cost centre, item and period. Compare sections that do similar work. With several plants, compare units side by side.

Abnormal use flagged

When usage for an item or cost centre jumps, IndustryPrime flags it. Often it is a maintenance problem, so you repair the machine instead of feeding it spares.

Scrap, budgets and the gate

Scrap management and monthly budgets are built in. Gate passes, returnable and non-returnable, record material leaving the premises for repair or return.

Where to start

Set up cost centres the way you already think about the plant: sections, lines or key machines. Load items and stock from Excel and start issuing. Your first consumption picture comes within a month.

For the other side of the store, see dead stock management, or how this works in steel and sponge iron plants.

How it works

Control consumption, step by step

Usage by department, section or machine, over any period you choose.

  3. 3

    Get flagged on abnormal use

Usage out of line for an item or cost centre is flagged for a check.

  4. 4

    Track scrap and budgets

Record scrap and set monthly budgets per area.

From manual work to any report, instantly

“I have been using IndustryPrime for the past few months at Bihar Foundry, and it has been a great experience. It's a very good system, and the IndustryPrime team is very cooperative and helpful. Wherever we need support, we discuss it with the IndustryPrime team directly. Earlier, most of our work was manual. Now that we are fully on IndustryPrime, things run on time and much more smoothly. We get any report we need instantly, and we then do our analysis accordingly. That analysis helps us, our management, and our organization keep improving.”

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is a cost centre in the store?

Any area you want to track usage for: a department, a production line, a machine or a section like Grinding or Maintenance. You set them up to match how you run the plant.

How does IndustryPrime decide consumption is abnormal?

It compares usage against the normal pattern for that item and cost centre, and flags spikes so someone can check before it continues.

Can material be issued without a record?

Material issued through IndustryPrime is always recorded with quantity and cost centre. Gate passes, returnable and non-returnable, cover material that leaves the premises.

Can I set a monthly spending limit for a department?

Yes. Monthly budgets are included. Every feature comes in the one plan.

Is it hard for the storekeeper to record every issue?

The screens are text-first and quick to use, and training runs until the store team is comfortable.
